Posible umanong play safe ang mga reelectionist senator sa impeachment case ni Vice President Sara Duterte, kaya ang reaksyon ng liderato ng Senado ay huwag pagalawin ang impeachment trial.
Ito ang sinabi ni Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman sa panayam ni Pinky Webb sa programang “On Point” ng Bilyonaryo News Channel.
“I do not see any real compelling reason for them not to convene and handle this case immediately as the Constitution states,” sabi ni Roman.
“Of course there might be other factors that are not openly discussed. You know I’m a politician myself and you know half of the senators are running for reelection maybe they are scared na maging electoral issue ito. and of course pag nag-convene sila baka mamaya magagalit sa kanila, mabawasan ang boto nila. This is just me,” dagdag pa nito.
Pitong incumbent senator ang tumatakbo para sa panibagong termino sa paparating na midterm election.
Upang mas maging maliwanag ang sagot, nagtanong si Webb kung “Ayaw na pag-usapan na muna ang impeachment dahil it could be used against them?”
Sagot ni Roman, “This is just me speculating.”
Iginiit ni Roman na ang tunay na tanong ay kung dapat bang unahin ng mga senador ang politikal na interes o ang kanilang mandato sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon.
“Ang tanong dyan ay ano ba ang susundin natin? Yung ating political career, hindi naman kinakailangan matalo ka dahil lang dun sa possibility na yun, o yung ating constitutional mandate?” tanong ng lady solon.
“The question, is it the right thing to do? I think more compelling reason yung constitutional mandate,” dagdag pa ni Roman.
Sunod na tanong ni Webb, “And what are you thinking right now, with this kind of schedule from the Senate. Anong mas importante sa kanila?”
Sagot naman ng lady solon, “They could do better actually and be more loyal to the Constitution. I am not accusing them directly of violating the Constitution but I think we’re sending mixed messages to Filipino people in general.”
“I think we should be more sensitive and listen to the clamor of so many groups who want us to uphold the Constitution,” dagdag pa nito.
Umaasa naman si Roman na magbabago ang isip ng Senado at aaksyunan na ang impeachment case.
